Wagner Family Wine Tasting

The Wagner wines are a whole family affair. Fourth generation winemaker Chuck Wagner and three of his four children Joseph, Charlie, and Jenny all have become huge names in their own right. Chuck is the owner and operator of one of the most popular Napa Valley wineries, Caymus. His son Charlie has two main projects Conundrum and Mer Soleil. Daughter Jenny started the Emmolo label named after her mother. Joseph is probably the golden child… Joe started Copper Cane wines and has now been behind some of the biggest brands in the world; Belle Glos, Elouan, and Quilt. His biggest success has been Meomi Pinot Noir which he sold for $315 Million. The wines on the flight this week are new labels and wines for the family. A killer flight for only $5!

Featured Wines:

2016 Sea Sun Chardonnay; $19.99

Sea Sun is one of the newest projects by Charlie. A brand new Chardonnay to Ohio that blends fruit from Santa Barbara, Monterrey and Solano Counties. Even though all three regions are coastal areas they span several hundred miles and the blend brings lots of complexity and depth. The oak is very nicely balanced bring light caramel flavors and rounding out that traditional California style with notes of butterscotch. The butter is not overdone allowing bright tropical and stone fruits to show through. - $2.00 Sample

2017 Boen Tri-Appellation Pinot Noir; $21.99

Boen is the newest addition to Joe's portfolio. This is truly Joe's new Meomi. Once again they are using a a blend of fruit from multiple appellations to get more balance and depth. The majority of the blend comes from Santa Lucia Highlands in Monterey County. This region delivers good acidity from the ocean air and an earthiness to the wine. The rest of the blend is a mixture of Russian River Valley with loads of juicy fruit and Santa Maria Valley in Santa Barbara adding a lush silky texture and spice. - $2.00 Sample

2013 Beran Sonoma County Zinfandel; $19.99

Some really amazing grapes make there way into this one. Joe produces this one from fruit they purchase from Moon Mountain vineyards and Alexander Valley vineyards. They do a really long, slow fermentation followed by a whole month of extended maceration. A full year in barrel follows to deliver lots of sweet baking spice and vanilla character. The aroma reminds me of blueberry pie with ripe raspberry and some dusty dark chocolate. This one is ready to drink! - $2.00 Sample

Lot 1 Bonanza Cabernet Sauvignon; $21.99

Father Chuck is back in the game with this new release. Bonanza is the newest wine to be added to the Wagner line. It was his attempt to make a “baby-Caymus” style Cab. He wanted to deliver that classic Wagner Cabernet at a more approachable price.

“Flavors of blueberries and blackberries mix with the warmth of vanilla and toasted bread. Silky tannins and striking smoothness. Mouthwatering, lengthy finish trails off with the taste of unsweetened chocolate and cassis.” - $2.00 Sample
