Founded in Belgium in 1871 by Jan-Leonard Moortgat. He worked year after year developing recipes until 1923 when his current bottling was shared amoung friends. It was a hit, one used the term Duvel (Devil) to describe the beer and it was named. 95 years later Duvel is available in over sixty countries following the same traditional recipe. In 2003, Duvel decided to expand their operations to the United States and purchused Ommegang Brewing followed by the purchase of Boulevard Brewing in 2013. Rounding it out in 2015 they became the owners of one of my favorite brewries in the world, Firestone Walker. We will be featuring two bottle samples of newer products from Duvel along with having a beer from both Ommegang and Boulevard on draft.
Duvel Single Fermentation: This brew starts out as Duvel classic, but after the primary fermentation this batch is cold filtered and then kegged/canned and sold. Duvel traditionally undergoes a secondary fermentation in bottle. This single fermentation batch is a bit lighter and crisper. 6.8%ABV/Unkown IBU
Duvel Tripel Hop Citra: Also modeled after the original recipe. Originally just featuring Saaz and Styrian Golding hops, the Tripel Hop is also dry hopped with a bunch of Citra hops to add some wonderful grapefruit and tropical aromas. 9.5%ABV/40 IBU
Boulevard Tank 7 Farmhouse Ale: After experimenting with variations on a traditional Belgian-style farmhouse ale, the perfect combination of elements came together in fermenter number seven. You could call it fate, but they called it Tank 7, and so it is. Beginning with a big surge of fruity aromatics and grapefruit-hoppy notes, the flavor of this complex, straw-colored ale tapers off to a peppery, dry finish. 8.5%ABV/38 IBU
Ommegang Hand of the Queen Barleywine: Part of the Royal Reserve Collection in collaboration with Game of Thrones. A beer brewed for Tyrion Lannister. As one who knows a great many things, Tyrion knows and loves wine above all else, so Hand of the Queen is a big, bold barleywine, a beer fit for those who seek knowledge and truth, both great and small. 10.7%ABV/Unknown IBU
